The Middletown High School
Drama Club
In 1989 the MHS Drama Club developed an adaptation of Frank Baum's story the Patchwork Girl of Oz (more commonly known as the Wizard of Oz).  The improve-style adaptation was carried out under the direction and guidance of Jeannette Lee Knapp, who taught English at MHS that year.  We brought the production to the Rhode Island Theater Competion, where it was well-received and soundly misjudged.  Since the story wasn't a straight adaptation of the movie (itself and adaptation), we thought a new name was in order.  We eventually settled on "curiOZity" but not without a great deal of thought.  Below are the 22 alternate alternate plots proposed by J. Ascoli and K. Zahm, and at the end of the list are the titles each would have.  Can you see any of them coming?

  1. The tragic story of the person who questioned an adulterous baseball player.
  2. People worship the drive-thru kiosk at Roslyn's fried chicken, and spend life searching for...
  3. The woman that used to visit dad that I liked so much.
  4. At the end of the Lucas/Spielberg shark epic, when Richard Dreyfus put all his faith in diving
        technology, we saw...
  5. The famous plastic surgeon, who lost his mouth to cancer...
  6. People depend too strongly on hours of bored leisure.
  7. Little kids admired the muppet bear's bad jokes.
  8. When unisex clothing is revered for its philosophy.
  9. The award-winning documentary about the manufacturing of fine wax strings
10. When a North-American bear is admired for his honesty about his own shortcomings with nature...
11. Charles Stuart's last child-birth class (he was admired and rewarded for attending alone to help
        the other moms-to be).
12. The horticulture teacher, made legendary by his preparedness for a huge snowstorm.
13. Mystical cutting utensil, lost in Arthurian antiquity.
14. The snake that got "dogged" in the appendage department, admired for overcoming his adversity.
