"In 1917 a pilgrimage of 100 noblewomen set out for the Holy Land. While they were gone, the Russian Revolution broke out and they could not return. Some went elsewhere to start new lives, but others elected to remain in Jerusalem, believing that matters at home would soon change for the better. Years pass into decades and still a handful of women remain--waiting. They refuse to acknowledge the passage of time. Their once regal gowns are now shabby black; their conversations a continual battle to keep out reality. This play tells the story of seven of these old Russian princesses." - from the Pioneer Drama Service on-line catalog. | |

"I refuse to accept the view that
mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism and
war that the bright daylight of peace and brotherhood can never become
a reality." (from the program) |
