Flame Line Spectra

A quick way to identify elements is by the color of their flames when burned. The heat from the flame strips the outer electrons. When the ions move away from the reaction they cool, and the returning electrons emit photons. The energy lost by the returning electrons is characteristic of the element. Use the spectroscope at each bench to examine each of the elements provided by your teacher. Record the spectra you see in the spaces provided.
